For the third week of the Newbie Blogger Initiative we were challenged by Ambermist of Tastes Like Battle Chicken to tell the story of our main.

This is the story I wrote for the original Killington it Tera. I rerolled Killington the other day and am in the process of writing a new story for him. I’m going to be adding the new story to my blog in sections as I get them written, but for now I wanted to share old Killington’s story with you all!

How Killington Came To Be:

A group of Castanics were gathered around a rickety old table, each of them holding playing cards in one hand and a flagon of mead in the other.

“So… tell us how you got the name Killington…” a rather sickly looking Castanic mumbled, his voice heavily slurred from having just the right amount to drink. The largest of the Castanics glanced over at the sword leaning against the window. A beam of neon light from one of Castanica’s many nightclubs gave it an ominous glow.

“The story is an old one my friends…” the Castanic smirked proudly, “Back when I was around five years of age my mother decided it was time for me to take up a weapon and learn to fight. She gave me a bow and a small quiver of arrows, and told my father that we were to leave our home and that neither of us could return until I had become a skilled archer.”

He tossed two of his cards to the center of the table and replaced them with new cards from the top of the deck. “I trained for months and months, doing my best to become decently skilled with my given weapon. Even though I put all of my effort into learning the skill, I was never very good at it and despised the very thought of fighting in that manner. I longed for the chance to take up a blade and bring the fight to the enemy – I wanted to get in my enemy’s face and fight close quartered.”

“Little did I know that I would soon get my chance”, Killington said as he finished off his mead, “One day while my father and I were training, a group of bandits wandered into our camp. They demanded that we hand over all of our belongings or suffer horrible deaths. My father refused them so they charged at us. Before my father could even let one arrow fly, one of the bandits flung his sword and the blade went straight through my father’s chest. My vision blurred and my body filled with rage as my father’s corpse fell limply to the ground. I pulled the large sword from his chest and charged at the bandits, swinging the sword wildly. It seemed as if time had stopped for a brief moment and by the time I realized what I was doing, each of the bandits were laying on the ground – their heads severed cleanly from their shoulders.”

“After that incident I returned to my mother, dragging the heads of the bandits along with me. When I told her what happened and showed her the heads, she told me that she was very proud of what I had become through my training. I must admit, she actually looked happier at that moment than I had ever seen her before! She told me that even though her initial choice of weapon had been wrong, she knew that I would become a deadly fighter. She also told me of the new weapon I possessed, and how the mighty slayers wielded them to destroy their enemies. On that day she also changed my name to Killington, believing that it would one day strike fear into the hearts of my foes.”

Killington slowly laid his cards out on the table and laughed. “I believe I have just won the game!”

____

What do you think about the original Killington in Tera? Would you guys be interested in more stories based on (the new) Killington?

Wrath of the Eternal Timekeeper

I was scanning through the blogs I picked up from the forums of the Newbie Blogger Initiative when I stumbled upon an awesome idea by Ambermist over at Tastes Like Battle Chicken. For the first week of NBI she challenged us to build our own boss. I love doing this kind of thing so I had to join in! Here is the boss I created for an unknown game:

Chronos, Guardian of Time

The star of my build your own boss challenge is Chronos, Guardian of Time and he is the final raid boss in the Wrath of the Eternal Timekeeper saga.

Although well-aged, Chronos, the mighty centaur, still knows his way around a battlefield. Clothed in brilliant white robes, he stands guard in the Eternal Plains, ready to defend himself against anyone foolish enough to try claiming his powers as their own. Chronos quivers with rage as he sees another group of mortals approach him. The repeated attacks by the mortals have made him lose his focus, causing time rips and bizarre creatures to appear throughout the Eternal Plains.

Players fight Chronos because their faction believes him to be a cruel tyrant and they hope to gain more freedoms by eliminating him.

Chronos has dialogue at two points during the encounter:

Upon aggro: ”How dare you challenge me? I am Chronos… I created Time itself! Without me, neither you nor your ancestors, nor anything you hold dear in your pathetic motal lives would even have had a chance to be created!”

Upon death: “Enjoy your new-found power while you can mortals, for you have no idea what unspeakable horrors you have just unleashed upon your world.”

These are the attacks Chronos has in his arsenal:

Melee attacks:

Punch – Main melee attack, does medium damage.

Kick – Secondary melee attack, used less often but does considerably more damage.

Spells:

Time Wave – Area Effect. Medium spell damage. Increases casting time of anyone affected by 500%. Extremely hard to resist, but cureable. 20 second duration. Can be avoided by standing at maximum spell casting range. Spell is automatically cast every 45 seconds.

Time Reversal – Direct attack against player at top of agro list. Reverts target’s stats to what they were at level 1. Removes player from agro list. 15 second duration on stat debuff. Unresistable, and Uncureable. Spell is cast when mobs hits 75%, 50%, and 25%.

Ravages of Time – Cast against random player on agro list. Instantly kills player. Unresistable. Spell is cast at random intervals. 90 second recast timer.

What do you think about Chronos? Would you want to go up against him in battle?

Hello all, and welcome to Wasdway.com!

For a couple months now I have been tossing around the idea of creating my own gaming blog. I had my name picked out and I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted my blog to cover. My problem was that I would set myself a date to have my first post written, then the date would draw closer and closer, and eventually go right on by. I gave myself another due date, and another, and another… each one passing by just like the first. What I needed was something or somebody to give me that push to finally get my blog off the ground. That’s where the Newbie Blogger Initiative came in.

I was going through my morning ritual of scrolling through Google Reader while I decided what to scrounge up for breakfast when I came across posts by Syp and Tipa, two of the gaming bloggers I follow, talking about a month long event called the Newbie Blogger Initiative that aims to help people that want to make their own gaming blog get started. The NBI has a group of already established gaming bloggers that are writing posts throughout the month of May to give tips and advice to new bloggers, answer questions they might have, and even help get some initial traffic to their blog to help get them discovered. And what is the cost for this amazing opportunity? Just the time and energy to get your blog off the ground. This was too good an offer to pass up.

I plan on having Wasdway.com cover two things. The first thing it will cover is my thoughts and stories as I travel through the MMO and computer gaming world. I also want to devote part of my blog to help people discover upcoming computer games, MMOs, and expansions. I will have posts where I will compile a wealth of information about new games and present it all in one place so people can discover new games without having to look all over the web. My personal goals for creating this blog are many; the main reasons I am here are to try something new, and make new friends to talk about my favorite topic(gaming!) with. If I could manage to shake off some of my antisocial tendencies that would be pretty nice too!

I started playing MMOs about nine years ago with Everquest. Since then I have tried nearly any mainstream MMO you could think of, and probably then some. I am currently playing Tera, and I am eagerly awaiting The Secret World and Copernicus, an upcoming MMO based in the new franchise that started with the recent game Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning. When the game boasts of a world created by your all time favorite author(R. A. Salvatore) it is pretty hard not to get excited!

Thanks for joining me, I look forward to many long chats in the future!

Killington
